Fire Destroys Porpoise Point Home in Vilano Beach

A residential fire destroyed a home in the Porpoise Point area of Vilano Beach early Tuesday morning. The blaze broke out at a property on Zamora Street, resulting in a partial collapse of the structure as emergency crews worked to contain the flames.

St. Johns County Fire Rescue and the St. Augustine Fire Department responded to the emergency call at approximately 4:31 a.m. Upon arrival, crews encountered a significant fire that was burning with enough intensity to threaten nearby buildings. The heat from the fire was so extreme that it caused exterior damage to neighboring homes, forcing a temporary evacuation of the immediate area for safety.

Three people were inside the home when the fire started, but all occupants managed to escape without injury. No firefighters were hurt during the multi-hour response. Firefighters successfully brought the situation under control before 7:00 a.m., though the primary residence is considered a total loss.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The State Fire Marshal has been called to the scene to determine the exact origin of the blaze. Porpoise Point residents should expect a continued presence of investigators in the neighborhood throughout the day.
